Foreword
Article Outline
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is characterized by restlessness, impulsive behavior and difficulty in paying attention that has implications in children, adolescents and adults. Clearly, this disorder is not in the exclusive domain of psychiatry and is frequently encountered by the primary care practitioner. In this monograph, Dr. Greydanus and colleagues demystify this disorder that has previously been known as “hyperkinetic syndrome” and “hyperactive reaction of childhood.” Furthermore, the authors discuss the impact of ADHD on adults (with an estimated prevalence as high as 5% in individuals over age 20 years). Their comprehensive approach detailing evaluation and treatment strategies (both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic) make this issue a valuable resource for any clinician managing these issues.
